The Chairman of the Donington on Bain Village Hall committee has praised the ‘phenomenal’ work of the Community Payback team.
Working for a couple of days per week for a number of months, a group of offenders teamed together effectively in order to clean, prepare, and decorate the village hall.
Community Payback is one of many sentences that can be given by a court, ranging from 40 to 300 hours per individual.
This effective form of sentencing sees real benefits to the community, and many hours spent in Lincolnshire on primarily community-related projects.
The Humberside, Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire Community Rehabilitation Company (HLNY CRC) managed and supervised the project after Carol Speakman, the chairman of the Donington on Bain Village Hall Committee, approached them to see if they could help.
Carol said: “It has been phenomenal. The quality of the work has been superb, and we could not have afforded to redecorate it at full price as we are a self-funded organisation.”
The committee had to pay a small fee in order to get the help from the Community Payback team, but these costs are significantly less than hiring a private decorator to carry out the work.
Carol added: “The Community Payback scheme seems to be very effective, and the team really showed pride in what they were doing.
“They had a very positive attitude, the supervision was brilliant, and we now have a lovely revitalised village hall.”
