The Louth Navigation Trust has launched a petition which aims to bring the Louth canal back into full operational use, following restoration by the Trust itself.
The online petition, which will be sent to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, states that it wishes: “to allow the Louth Navigation Trust, a registered charity, to restore the full length of the Louth canal and bring the watercourse back into full operational use.
“This would encompass renovating or renewing existing locks and associated canal structures including banks together with an operational depth put in place for boats and craft to use as a navigable waterway.”
The petition currently has just a few hundred signatures, but it requires thousands more for it to be put under consideration by the government.
