Free two-hour parking could be introduced at a number of East Lindsey coastal resorts in a plan put forward by the district council.

The proposed plans would see the free parking introduced to one car park in each coastal resort which includes Mablethorpe, Sutton on Sea, Chapel St Leonards and Skegness.

These parking plans if approved with be implemented all year round and not just during the quieter winter period, meaning that visitors to these coastal resorts during the busy summer season would also benefit from the proposal.

The car parks locally that would see these changes include Park Square car park in Mablethorpe and Marine Drive car park in Sutton on Sea.

Portfolio holder for the environment, who has responsibility for car parking, Coun Steve O’Dare, said: “Since becoming portfolio holder, I have been keen to ensure that each of the coastal communities has access to a car park with a ‘free two- hour’ tariff in line with those already in place for inland towns.

“As such, I am proposing a change to the Car Parking Order.

“Once this change has been made we will promote this locally.”

A three month consultation period will now take place before the amendments to the car parking order can be made.

A statutory notice will be placed in newspapers shortly and views can be submitted on the proposed changes to

The final decision will be taken by councillors following the consultation, taking into account the responses.
