Police are warning the public to continue to be alert to scam phone calls following a suspicious incident in Sutton On Sea.
On Monday afternoon (August 24), a lady received a call from a man purporting to be from the Metropolitan Police.
The call varied slightly from similar scam calls in that the ‘officer’ told the lady that they had found one of her friends wandering in Islington in a confused state. They then asked her to confirm her friend’s address, at which point the lady became suspicious and terminated the call.
The caller used the correct name for the friend and made it appear as though he was calling from a valid Met Police landline number.
Police are reminding the public that scammers can appear very authentic but that genuine police will not call and ask for very personal information.
