After a difficult year of living with cancer, a couple from Alford have won some special relaxation time at Eden Hall Day Spa.
As the year came to a close, the Newark-based spa ran a social media campaign to find unsung heroes and heroines who deserved a complimentary day of luxurious pampering at Eden Hall.
People had to recommend those who had inspired them with their grit and determination in 2014.
Sally Gray from Alford recommended her 41-year-old son-in-law Dave Moss who was diagnosed with terminal cancer – but who has continued to battle the disease.
Sally said that Dave and her daughter Kerry, 29, had bravely gone through a myriad of treatments, as well as continuing to look after their three young children aged between 11 and just 18-months-old.
Sally said in her message: “They both had a terrible year and both could use the day at Eden Hall very much.”
Kerry Moss from Willoughby, near Alford, said she was thrilled that her and Dave would be enjoying a day of rest and recuperation.
“In 2011, Dave was diagnosed with a rare cancer which seemed to progress very quickly,” she said.
“Last year we were in and out of hospital and he has been on intensive treatment because of low platelets in his blood. It has been very difficult as we have had numerous hospital visits in London and more locally, and we have three children too – and we didn’t want anything to affect what they are doing.”
She added: “I am really grateful to mum for putting us forward for the day at Eden Hall. It will be lovely – a day which we can both enjoy.”
Charlotte Bridges, of Eden Hall, said the spa was overwhelmed by the number of recommendations of people who deserved the spa day for two.
She commented: “We had an excellent response to the campaign and we were overwhelmed by people’s heart-warming stories of how they battled illness or difficult personal situations. It was incredibly difficult to choose just one, but in the end we had an unanimous decision.”
The couple will enjoy their spa day at the end of this month.
