A team of swimmers from St Michael’s CE Primary School has qualified for the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) national finals in Sheffield.

The school’s A-Team qualified after achieving success at the recent East Midlands championships, which were held at the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth at the end of April.

The team qualified after coming third place in the Medium School Freestyle Relay final, narrowly missing out on second place by less than one second.

Congratulations to the members of the A-Team, Year Six pupils Jamie Briggs, Emma Oxby, Sam Garbett and Thomas Scott (pictured above). Congratulations to the other pupils from St Michael’s who also took part, and to the pupils from Greenwich House A Team who missed out on qualifying for the national finals in the Small School Freestyle category by just half a second.

A girls team from Kidgate also took part in tightly fought contest in both the freestyle and mixed stroke finals.

Organiser John Marritt said that the evening had been an exciting event, with close races in front of a packed house.
