A pinnacle clock that was damaged during a heavy storm in 2012 now strikes to the hour once again thanks to a South Reston restorer.
The heavy winds that struck St Peter’s Church in Trusthorpe resulted in the area falling silent after the church suffered extensive damage to the tower, gallery and clock mechanisms.
But thanks to the expertise of Peter Gray, from the Old Smithy Clock Restorers based in South Reston, the clock as of May is now back in full working order.
Peter Gray said: “It has been a pleasure working on the clock and we are now happy to see it not only telling the time, but striking on the superb bells, as it was originally designed to do in the 1970s.”
The tower clock, with its splendid striking mechanism, was an addition during the 1970s, and allows the sound of three, great bells to be heard over the surrounding countryside.
The clock, with its two faces, was installed at the instigation of Mr Woolhouse in memory of his mother who knew the church well in her younger days.
St Peter’s Church is also distinguishable by its nine beautiful stained-glass windows and many personalised quilted kneelers.
Diana Povah, representing the church added: “Fundraising continues for the renovation of another property connected to the Church, St Peter’s Annexe.
“This summer will see the Annexe in use, as usual, for garden fetes, BBQs and Car Boot Sales.
“We welcome anyone wishing to help out, there is always lots to do here.
“We are really pleased to see the renovation work completed and especially hearing the clock striking, thanks to Old Smithy Clock Restorers.”
