A County Councillor for Alford and Sutton on Sea decided to put his love of mince pies to good use by eating as many as possible over the Christmas period to raise funds for charity.
Coun Stephen Palmer pledged to donate £1 for every pie eaten to the cancer charity GISTSupportUK.
Coun Palmer explained: “This was very personal to me as I’ve had to have four major operations to remove five cancerous tumours from my bowel and liver over the years - the last two in 2014 and 2015. I also have to have CT scans every three as the only cure is to have any tumours ‘whipped out’ before they become in-operable, early detection is vital.”
Steve wanted to raise some funds for this rare cancer support and research charity. Steve added: “I was amazed when seven other people said they would match £1 per mince pie as well and others who donated money and pies.”
Steve ate a total of 40 mince pies , raising £320 plus another £49 in donations.
Coun Palmer said: “I would like to thank Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea Town Councillors, Diana Russell and Coun Col Sweeny, County Coun Helen Powell for donations, Pagus Residents Association, Dave’s Diner and the Mayor of Mablethorpe and Sutton Coun Graham Callum for the mince pies and encouragement. Also to the sponsors: Kim Parrinder, Jackie Key, Charlotte and Diana Turner-Simpson, Catherine Hallsworth of The Fat Seagull, Sandilands, and Karan and Nev Waldon-Smith.”
