Local teenagers taking part in the National Citizen Service are running a charity bake-a-thon to raise money for the Town Hall.
Hot drinks and homemade cakes will be available in the Town Hall ballroom today (Wednesday July 29) from 10am to 3pm, along with musical entertainment, a raffle and a book sale.
NCS is a flagship government initiative that provides 15-17 year olds a chance to develop key life skills and improve their CV, all the while taking on new challenges, making friends and volunteering in their hometowns.
Phil Everett, Communications Manager for NCS EM1, said: “A major part of NCS is the social action project, which gives teenagers a chance to plan and carry out a local voluntary project that will help make a difference in their home towns.”
Kenny Foakes, 16, a participant in the scheme this year, said: “NCS had given me more confidence in front of new people and enabled me to try things I never thought I’d be able to.”
