Tickets for Troops offers military families free tickets to see War Horse

MEMBERS of the Armed Forces and their families have been invited to share the experience of Steven Spielberg’s epic War Horse through two benevolent initiatives courtesy of the filmmakers and DreamWorks Pictures.

At the UK Premiere which is held on Sunday January 8 in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, the Patrons Their Royal Highnesses’ The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in attendance alongside director Steven Spielberg and the exceptional British cast.

Six hundred serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families have also been invited to the premiere, alongside beneficiaries of military charities, with which the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry is working.

The servicemen and women have been invited from The Duke of Cambridge’s regiments, including RAF Search and Rescue, Household Cavalry, Irish Guards, Royal Air Force Coningsby, Scotland Royal Naval Command and Submarines Royal Naval Command.

DreamWorks Pictures is also working with charity Tickets For Troops which was set up to provide free tickets to members of the Armed Forces. Tickets for Troops is offering UK military families across the country exclusive screenings of War Horse from Monday January 9.

In partnership with Apollo Cinemas, over 600 troops and their families will be able to see War Horse at Apollo Cinemas in Leamington Spa, Port Talbot, Burnley, Torbay, Fareham and Piccadilly Circus, the week before the movie goes on general release on the 13th January.

Nicole Oakley, Marketing Manager for Apollo Cinemas said: ““We are thrilled to be able to provide these exclusive screenings for members of our Armed Forces and reward and recognise them for all the great work they do on our behalf.”

Apollo Cinemas pledged their support for the charity Tickets for Troops seven months ago and regularly offer members of the Armed Forces up to 1,040 free tickets of selected films every week, Monday to Thursday, at all 14 of their UK cinemas.

These tickets are available on the Tickets for Troops website,, to troops who are currently serving or who have been medically discharge since 2001.

The partnership has allowed members of the Armed Forces and their families to escape from the stresses that are often associated with the work they do.

Tickets For Troops was set up in 2009 to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events, theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions. Since launching it has been donated over 280,000 tickets and over 100,000 troops have registered on the website

Chairman of Tickets For Troops Lord Marland said: “We are enormously grateful to Apollo Cinemas and DreamWorks Pictures for their fantastic support for Tickets For Troops. It makes a real difference to the troops who are doing such an extraordinary job during these difficult times. We are very grateful to DreamWorks for supporting us in this fantastic way.”
