On Saturday (June 27) at 11.20am the Atlantic 75 ‘Joan Mary’ was paged to assist the recovery of a kayak at Huttoft.
As the crew were underway it soon became clear that there was another kayaker that had paddled out to assist his friends kayak recovery.
With an off shore breeze of three-four on the Beaufort scale the second kayaker had become exhausted.
The lifeboat assisted the gentleman back to shore and returned the other kayak to coastguards waiting on the shore.
Helmsman Shaun Riggall stated that the kayakers had all the correct equipment including a marine radio. A member of the public called in the rescue as the two gentlemen did not want to call the lifeboats for fear of causing a fuss, it soon became clear that the lifeboat was needed.
Please do not be afraid to contact the coastguard if you need assistance or see anyone in trouble.
