PUPILS at two North Somercotes schools have celebrated Pancake Day in a truly traditional way by spending the afternoon holding pancake races.
Students of Birkbeck School and North Somercotes Primary took part on Birkbeck fields with races for all ages including the parents.
Pancake Day, officially Shrove Tuesday, harks back to a time when people would use up their rich foodstuffs like eggs and sugar before lent began the following day.
Pancake races have been a tradition of the day across towns and villages in the UK for many years.
The video shows Birkbeck pupil Luke Conway crossing the line first in the 15 to 17 years old category.
