Walk to mark flood anniversary

A GUIDED walk to mark the 91st anniversary of the Louth Flood is to be held in the town.

The In the Wake of the Louth Flood walk takes place on Saturday May 28 at 5pm with Blue Badge Guide Jean Howard and David Robinson.

They will lead people along the trail of devastation left by the massive surge of flood water along the River Lud which hit the town on the afternoon of Saturday May 29, 1920.

Twenty three lives were lost and countless properties destroyed as the water ripped through Louth. Learn about the human tragedies behind the disaster, the bravery of heroic rescues and the fortitude and resolve of the people of the town.

The walk will last about 75 minutes and will include a visit to the award winning, interactive flood display in Louth Museum.

The route is on paved footpaths and is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. There will be toilet facilities en-route.

To book a place call into Louth Museum in Broadbank or call 01507 601211.
