AN early season heatwave saw a welcome tourism boost for Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea as hundreds of people headed to the coast to enjoy Sunday’s warm weather.

Temperatures reached as high as 18 degrees celcius (64 degrees farenheit) as the Lincolnshire coast basked in the sunshine.

The undoubted highlight was the sand racing on Mablethorpe beach.

The Met Office say the average maximum temperature for Lincolnshire in March is 9.7 degrees celcius.

East Lindsey District Council’s Communications Officer, James Gilbert, said: “We’re delighted the area has benefited from another warm and sunny weekend, which has presented tourism businesses with another important opportunity.

“2012 is an exciting year for East Lindsey and with good weather and great events already being planned we hope the economy will be given a real boost.”
