A young Louth mum that has lost three-and-a-half stone is so happy with her results that she is now setting up her own group to help others.

Gemma Ford, 23, saw her weight plummet when she reached college and the thought of speaking in class and going out with her new friends was ‘daunting’ and made her feel ‘insecure.’

“Taking photos with friends was my worst nightmare. I would go on our phones the morning after a night out and delete the photos where I felt I looked fat or ugly,” Gemma explained.

Gemma tried many diets to lose weight but it wasn’t sustainable. In 2011, Gemma moved in with her partner. As a young couple with little cooking knowledge, they lived on jar sauces and freezer meals. At her largest weight, Gemma suffered with anxiety.

“I tried to disguise the way I felt. I would make a jokey comment about my insecurities before anyone else had the opportunity,” Gemma added.

A friend of Gemma’s had success with Slimming World. Wanting the same success, Gemma started her local slimming group. Four years on and having a gap from slimming when she became pregnant, she is now three-and-a-half stone lighter. Following her success, Gemma has decided to set up her own class. Gemma said: “I want to spread the same enthusiasm and encouragement to others.”

Join her on: Thursday evenings at 5.30pm or 7.30pm at the Trinity Centre in Louth. For more info, call her on 07849 673057.
