WI gets to grips with feltmaking

THE October meeting of North Thoresby and District WI took place in the village hall with the President, Audrey Foster, welcoming 16 members.

Annette Brewell, the Social Secretary, reported on the success of the stall at the 1940s Day.

The President then introduced the speaker Heather Pickwell, who gave a brief history of feltmaking and its geographical origins.

She demonstrated some of the techniques involved, and invited members to try them out.

Heather had brought examples of work for display purposes plus various items and materials for sale. Many members took their pieces home to make into brooches.

The Vote of thanks was given by Angela Hawkins.

The raffle was won by Lynda Larder.

The competition Flower of the month was won by Carol Wilson with Lynda Larder second and Jane Cunningham third.

The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday November 1 when WI member Janet Draycott will be demonstrating and assisting members to make a Christmas craft item.

Visitors and new members will be very welcome.
