EDITOR – I write in response to Dusty Miller’s letter (Leader April 20) in which he quoted Rousseau: ‘Man is born free and everywhere he is in chains’.
This was quoted in reference to the national chains (corporations) that have and are moving into town, I believe.
I think these quotes by Benito Mussolini best sum up the situation we now find ourselves in at a local and national level.
1. ‘Fascism should rightly be called corporatism as it is a merge of state and corporate power’.
2. ‘Democracy is beautiful in theory, in practise it is a fallacy’.
I would suggest we have now gone beyond a merger of state and corporate power, and that corporate power has taken over. Nothing illustrates this better than the banking crises (too big to fail – garbage).
