Spring’s fresh start brought to abrupt halt by screeching tyres

EDITOR – March 21, the Spring Equinox, a fresh start and, for some, birth of a new life.

Time 1.28pm, we drove down Legbourne Road into Louth, the sky was blue, fluffy white clouds and quite warm for the time of year.

God was in his heaven and all was right with the world – OR WAS IT?

A young moorhen flitted across the road and my wife braked to let it through. Alas, all in vain.

A silver grey car coming from Louth quite casually, with no attempt to stop or swerve, ran over it and broke its neck.

Its life was, in one second, snuffed out – just like that.

The driver had a clear view, no car in front or behind, and to compound his crime neither did he stop.

There are many words for a ****** like that but any I can think of are unprintable. I’ll leave it to the reader to fill in the missing word.

Put it like this, had I got my hands on the ****** it would have been a long time before he got in a car again.
