B team goes second after a narrow victory

LOUTH Indoor Bowls Club Men’s B team beat Long Sutton 97-95 and moved into second place in division 3 of the county table, displacing their opponents.

Although Louth won four rinks the match was closey contested and the overall score was in doubt until the last minute with the visitors having fought back from 11 shots down with just three ends remaining before running out of time.

The Mixed B team remain bottom of their section after a 84-100 defeat at home to Stamford.

It was a decent effort which gained two rink wins and could have three if one rink hadn’t lost their last five ends, conceding 11 shots, after leading by three shots.

The closing stages of the match saw both teams scoring, and dropping, numerous shots.

A Louth rink and a visiting rink each grabbed ‘7’ on their last end whilst another Louth rink picked up 10 shots over their final four ends.

The club’s Ladies’ team produced an excellent 117-82 home win over second-placed Horncastle last week. They were in command from the start and led by 22 shots after just five ends.

Although the visitors reduced the arrears by the midpoint Louth didn’t wilt and extended their lead to 25 shots after 15 ends and finished comfortable winners.

Only a late fightback by one Horncastle rink prevented the home team taking all five rinks.
