DESPITE losing by 85 shots to 127 in their home county match against Lincoln ‘A’, and only winning one rink, Louth Indoor Bowls Club’s Mixed ‘A’ team didn’t do as badly as the outcome suggests.
The overall margin was partly due to one visiting rink building up a good lead but with six ends left to play Louth were still in contention on the other four rinks.
Sadly, Lincoln finished the stronger on two rinks whilst one home rink only lost out by three shots.
The Mixed ‘B’ team suffered an even bigger defeat when going down 74-129 away to division 2 leaders Boston.
Louth were never really in it after the first five ends when the home team took a 36 shots lead. One Boston rink was already 17-0 up by that stage!
Louth did achieve one rink win with the four of D Wise, K Stamford, C Kelly and S Webster winning 18-14.
It was left to the ladies to put up the best effort when they were host to top team Lincoln. Once again an opposition rink built up a commanding lead, posting 35 shots before the Louth rink had registered on the scoreboard on the 13th end.
At this stage the vistors were 17 shots ahead overall but Louth held sway on two rinks and pressing for a third.
With three ends to play Louth had pegged the deficit back to 12 shots and were now up on three rinks. But there was little change over the final few ends and Lincoln took the match by 114-99 but Louth did very well to win three rinks.
Best home performance was the rink of S Stainton, A Ashwood, J Norman and S Webster which won 31-15.
The club’s recent open day proved a moderate success with a good percentage of those attending submitting membership applications.
