Collins seals win as Louth U14s see off Birchwood

Louth Town U14s 3-1 Birchwood - Midlincs U14s B

Hosts Louth started the game brightly and immediately set the pace of the game, with Marcus Collins, Dan Parks and Thomas McGrath all testing the keeper early on from distance.

Louth closed down really well and limited the amount of ball Birchwood got.

Town’s Liam Wilson played a through ball to Marcus Collins steps the ball into space and lets loose a shot past the overworked Birchwood keeper.

Birchwood restricted to long range shots by the hard work of Liam Wilson and Matty Appleby. In a rare shot on goal Skye Kirkham parried the ball away and Birchwood were first in to net the rebound.

Ryan Bingham ran at the defence and attempted to flick the ball over a Birchwood player who handled. Thomas McGrath stepped up to take the resulting free kick and Matty Appleby’s movement helped to create a channel allowing McGrath a clear sight on goal, which he converted cleanly giving the keeper no chance.

Superb communication between Marcus Collins and Ryan Bingham worked the ball between eachother, raking their way through the Birchwood defence, before Marcus slotted the ball calmly past the Birchwood goalkeeper.

It was a comfortable win for Louth, but this belied the work rate and effort the entire team put in in all areas of the park. Man of the match went to Matty Appleby.
