FOOTBALL: Monks’ Dyke’s cup dream ends at last 32 stage of schools cup

Monk’s Dyke Tennyson College’s fantastic run in the English Schools Football Cup came to an end as they were beaten 3-0 by Malet Lambert from Hull in the last 32.

The year 8 side from both Louth and Mablethorpe campuses battled well but could not prevent the defeat which ended their cup dream.

After a few minutes, the away side went 1-0 up but this did not unsettle Monks’ Dyke, they continued to battle on and had a couple of good opportunities to equalise.

The Monks’ Dyke team defended tirelessly and denied Malet Lambert any more chances to score but, when they threw players forward late on Malet Lambert broke away and netted two more.

Mr Steve Wright, head of PE and team coach, said: “We did really well to hold the runners-up from last year and this experience will only help our team in future matches.

“Against teams from bigger areas you have to take your chances, be tight at the back and have a bit of luck. I am very proud of the MDTC team getting to the last 32 in the country in this tournament.

“They should hold their heads high.”

Tom James was awarded man of the match.
