Louth Town set for tough test in season opener

LOUTH Town boss Daryl Clare has challenged his players to take their pre-season efforts into the new season this weekend.

A new look White Wolves side travel to Albion Sports in the season curtain raiser on Saturday with Clare looking to get off to a flyer in the league campaign.

Though Town have won only one of their packed pre-season campaign, the side have faced higher opposition on a number of occasions and have acquitted themselves well.

And there is an air of optimism around Park Avenue under Clare, who succeeded Paul Walden over the summer break.

Town’s trip to Bradford-based Albion Sports is certain to be a stern test, the Lions finished eight places and 21 points above the White Wolves in fourth place last season.

Clare said: “The players’ efforts pre season have been outstanding, considering the calibre of opposition we have faced and the hard work we have put them through.

“Everyone has responded to the challenge, it is now time for us to go and do the business in the league.”

Town will face a trip to Bottesford Town in the first round of the League Cup on Wednesday night before a trip to Glossop North End in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.

Then the White Wolves’ home supporters will get a first glimpse of the side on home soil when they welcome Pontefract Collieries to Park Avenue on Wednesday, August 15.
