Mablethorpe Athletic were involved in a second stalemate against Boston Premier Division opposition as their pre-season programme continued last week.
Ten days after fighting out a goalless draw with Spilsby Town, Athletic held Skegness Town Reserves to a 1-1 scoreline.
The first half was uneventful with little to speak of apart from Luke Turner’s header, well saved by Elliott Clark, and a near miss from John Atkinson.
The second half saw an improvement with both sides hitting the woodwork and finding the net.
Callum Hyland struck the left post twice, once with a header from Jamie Parnell’s long throw-in, and also with a snap-shot from the edge of the box.
At the other end, Damian Howland also headed Tyler Bob’s corner against the crossbar.
Skegness scored on the hour mark when Josh McKobie latched onto Dan Field’s through ball and slotted past the onrushing Jamie Pittam.
But Mablethorpe were soon level when Hyland headed home Atkinson’s corner.
Athletic thought they had won the game seconds from time when Parnell squared the ball across goal and James Foad fired in from close range, but the linesman flagged for offside.
Manager Mick Stubbs said: “It was a good run-out for us and we drew against another strong team.
“Some had work commitments and holidays so there were changes and it took time to gel. A few of them were playing for the first time and had promising debuts.
“Well done to all the lads – the game was a good workout. We will have more friendlies over the coming weeks and will keep putting the work in to prepare for the new season.”
Mablethorpe’s next friendly is on Tuesday at home to Cleethorpes Town AKP (kick-off 7pm).
Mablethorpe (4-2-3-1): Pittam; Brownson (Williamson), Bebbington, Billingham, Sirett (c); Parnell, Hyland; Mackay, Carter (Turner), Foad; Atkinson.
