Louth Third XI went top of Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Four with a nine-wicket win at Old Lincolnians on Saturday.

Skipper Adam Grist won the toss and had no hesitation in asking the hosts to bat first on a green wicket.

Wickets fell at regular intervals with opening bowler Sam Ellis bowling with pace and accuracy to claim 3 for 15 off 12 overs.

Only two batsmen made it into double figures as nine-man Old Lincolnians were dismissed for just 66 in 27 overs.

Russ Hayward was Louth’s leading wicket-taker with 4 for 22 off nine overs, ably supported by Jack Leeming who picked up a vital wicket.

A special mention also goes to wicket-keeper Mike Searle who executed three sharp stumpings.

After tea, opening pair Matthew Stephens and Jamie Johnson set about the target at a quick pace, racing along at four runs per over.

Johnson departed for a quickfire 30, but no further wickets fell as William Allis (6 not out) supported Stephens (26 not out) to see Louth to the target for maximum 20 points.
