ATHLETICS: Hot weather does not stop Mablethorpe Running Club working up a sweat

Undeterred by the continuing hot weather, Mablethorpe Running Club are continuing to work up a sweat in a number of events.

The Spilsby Show 6-mile road race has been a key event since 1998. Originally started as a fun run, it has grown into a fully affiliated race and one of the most popular attractions at The Show. It continues to go from strength to strength.

Of the 129 entrants this year, 14 of them were from Mablethorpe Running Club with the results: 22nd Nigel Booth 41m 23s, 24th Wayne Kew 41m.33s, 27th Nigel Cross 41m 56s, 34th Tammy Rainbow 43m 37s, 50th Paul Stupple 45m 51s, 74th Alice Hockham 50m 22s, 75th Leon Hockham 50m 23s, 88th Guy Willey 52m 49s, 92nd Debbie Jinks 53m 38s, 122nd Louise Willey 1h 04m 45s, 123rd Andrea Mettam 1h 04m 50s, 124th Sarath Broadbride 1h 05m 20s, 125th Diane Holmes 1h 05m 34s, 126th Helen Rice-Mundy 1h 08m 38s.The winner was Les Ball in an amazing time of 33m 06s.

Elaine Wilson, Sharon Wheatley Margarson and Paul Stupple were 3 of 90 runners that completed the recent Cleethorpes Parkrun battling the heat and humidity on a Saturday morning.

Paul was a first timer at this event finishing 26th in 23m 18s. Sharon finished 32nd in 24m 43s, just 10 seconds away from matching her PB. Elaine was 39th achieving a new PB of 26m 27s. The race was won by Henry McTernan (unaffiliated) in a time of 18m 05s.

Having recently achieved a new one-mile PB, Rob Hawse was out racing last weekend in the Fernwood 5k, which again saw him on the podium, this time in third position. Recording a new 5k PB in a mere 16m 46s on a multi-terrain course, Rob was very pleased with the result. Also running, Gavin Pickwell finished 41st in a time of 23m 26s.

The club meets at Mablethorpe Athletics Club on Sherwood Fields in Mablethorpe at 6.30pm every Monday and Thursday. Anyone, whatever your age or ability, are most welcome to come and run.
