Louth Athletic Club youngsters James Larder and May Ashton-Jones led the charge in last Tuesday evening’s Cleethorpes 5k - the final race in the resort’s winter series on the promenade.
Fifteen-year-old James finished third overall in 17.22 and 16-year-old May was the fifth female home and 47th overall in 21.13.
Fellow teenager Declan Godrey ran well to beat the 20-minute mark in 19.38.
Other Louth runners competing were Steve Hunt (39), Phil Jackson (73), Helen Parkes (98), Ros Jackson (101), Jo Hunt (115) and Karen Moulding (124).
Race winner was Antony Whiteman of Shaftesbury and Barnet in 15.15 and first female was Mablethorpe’s Janine Stones, closely followed by team mate Sheryl Hawse.
Last Sunday a squad of 22 Louth runners competed in the Barton Open Cross Country in Baysgarth Park.
After trudging through thick mud for much of the season the springy, dry grass underfoot was a novelty for those racing.
Lucas George-Jones ran very well to finish fifth in his first under 13’s race.
