The Louth Indoor Bowls Club knockout finals are providing interesting viewing for the spectators.

The 2-bowl Singles saw Russ Dent open up a 18-5 lead over Harry Putland and although Harry fought back to 20-15 Russ grabbed the one shot he needed for a excellent 21-15 win.

The Ladies Pairs final was equally absorbing. Eileen Rayner and Rachael Stanley scored a 4 and a 6 in the first five ends to open a 13-2 lead. Opponents Veronica Hillier and Liz Draper dug deep and reduced the arrears to 16-8. Another 4 by Rayner & Stanley saw them pull away again, but Hillier and Draper scored two fours of their own to keep them in it at 21-16.

They then won three ends on the trot including a 5 to level the scores at 23-each with two ends to play. Rayner and Stanley then took a one-shot advantage into a last-end all or nothing finale and it was they who scored three more shots for a fine 27-23 victory.

Russ Dent was on form again in the under-25s Singles as he won the final four ends to beat Jack Goy 21-13.

The Men’s Over 60s Singles was won by Vic White as he came from 15-10 behind to beat Barrie Robinson 21-18.

Allan Dent (Snr) and Alan Dent (Jnr) eventually got the better of Ian and Maggie Burgess in the 2-bowl Pairs thanks to a late purple patch of two fours and two threes which gave them a 25-7 victory.

The Ladies Triples was won by Margaret Leggett, Sue Page and Val Sherry who just had the better of Sylvia Stanton, Alice Ashwood and Wendy Blyth in the 19-15 win.
