With the battle for the Louth Indoor Bowls Club Summer League title being decided in the final game between the top two it was do or die for Highgate Wanderers who trailed Oaks by one point.
And the game proved a fitting finale to the season. The Wanderers line-up of Val Sherry, Bernice Culham and Colin Matthews started well and aided by a 4 went 12-2 ahead, looking set for victory.
But the Oaks trio of John Brown, Derek Burgess and Malcolm Stevenson fought back collecting a 5 along the way to reduce the arrears to 12-9 going into the last end. But they couldn’t find the four shots needed for victory and it was Wanderers who won the game 12-10 and claimed the title.
Mudlarks beat In A Minute 21-6, including a score of 8 on one end, to take third spot on shots difference from The Jays, who edged a last-end decider by 12-11 against Dreamers. The other game saw Two Plus One win 19-9 against Seagulls.
The Evening Pairs champions are Barry Mountain and Derek Woodforth who made sure of the title, with two games still to play, with a 17-8 win over C.Rose and E.Draper. Second-placed Charlie Briggs and Keith Greenhill beat K.Castledine and M.Rose 17-13 and opened a two-point gap ahead of Tony Wilson and Paul Hayman, who slipped up when losing 15-10 to G.Chesman and G.Boswell.
