PRESIDENT Howard Castell hosted another successful President’s Day at Woodthorpe Golf Club. With scores of prizes to compete for, an enjoyable day was had by all with some close competition.
The overall winner was Mick Wright with an outstanding 40 points. Terry Cairns was the first division winner with 38 followed by the ever present Ernie Vials (36) and Brian Orridge on count back from John Gregory (35).
The second division winner was Dave Stephenson on count back from John Allerton and Jim Welborn, all with 38 followed by John Summerfield (37).
Captain John Chivers took third division honours with another 38 closely followed by Graham Dodsworth (37) and Peter Hawksley (35) on count back from Glynn Craske.
John Cassie was nearest the pin on the fifth, Andy Sykes on the eighth and Dennis Mirfin on the eighteenth. Andy Sawyer was nearest the 14th pin with his second shot. Dave Stephenson had the highest points on the odd stroke index holes and John Gregory the highest on the evens.
The early birds were out at 6 am for a shotgun start followed by a full English breakfast after the round at Woodthorpe recently. Brian Orridge was the worthy winner with 35 points on count back from Len Hinman. Jill Hough was first for the Ladies scoring 34 points, Cynthia Taylor was the runner up with 33 points.
