Louth Mens A bowling team were in action on Saturday as guests of Spalding bowls club and the two sides produced a thriller, with Louth narrowly edging the win.
The team on rink 1 comprising of Dave Roper, Pat Jacklin, Keith Kelly, and Colin Smith got off to a 6-0 start , winning 20-16, before in Rink 2 Enrnst Jensen, Mal Hewson, Allan Watson and Vic White fell a 20-19 defeat.
Rink 3 saw Terry Clark. Jon Utnage, Howard Hurst, Bob Ledgerwood looking down the throat of a real trouncing, but through true grit they managed to lose just 23-19.
In Rink 4 Barry Mountain, Geoff Tyler, John Welsh and Allan Dent Snr earned Louth’s most comfortable win, triumphing 23-18 before in the final rink Horace Cope, Rob Lamb, Harry Putland and Tony Musson won 21-19 to give Louth the aggregate win.
Meanwhile the Louth Ladies played for the Yetton plate, a knockout for clubs from across the country.
This week Louth took on Sleaford and what a match it was. The team of J Robinson, C Kelly, C Smith and L Woods fought back from 14 down to lose by just four shots.
The results started to come through from the away games and the team of G. Levington, T Scrimshaw B Cuthbert and J Stones won well by seven before the second Louth away team of S Page, W. Dyson, M Leggett, B Clark lost in a close game by three shots putting the scores level.
The second home team of B Barnett, V Hiller, J Holdsworth and S Stainton turned a 17-20 score into an impressive 22-20 win, giving Louth a winning score of 80-78 to go through to the next round in Leicestershire.
