After only two triathlon races, Emily Patch has been selected to represent team GB in the 2015 Geneva ETU European Championships in July.

The 17-year-old from Little Carlton near Louth has always enjoyed swimming and cross country running, so she thought she would give
a triathlon race a go, add cycling to her list of disciplines and see how it went from there.

But it would seem that Emily has some raw talent for triathlon as she’s secured herself a place in Team GB.

Emily, who is a student at King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth, said: “I have always enjoyed swimming and I do a lot of cross country running at school.

“To take part in a triathlon, there was only cycling left to add in alongside the two disciplines of sport I was good at already, so I thought I would have a go at a triathlon and see how I got on.”

Emily first took part in a triathlon just a few months ago at the Woodhall Spa Triathlon in June and came first in the 15-19 year-old age category.

Her most recent and only second race she has competed in was just weeks ago at Emberton Country Park, near Milton Keynes, where she came second, losing out on victory by only 30 seconds in the under 20s category.

These impressive placings in two triathlons has now enabled her to qualify for the European Championships next year.

Emily added: “I am really pleased and also very excited to have been selected to represent Team GB in 2015. It was a complete shock and I really didn’t expect it.

“I am now going to be spending a lot of time working on my triathlon training in preparation for the ETU European Championships next year.”

Emily is also looking for sponsorship to help her on way to the European Championships next year. If you think you can help Emily or want to find out more information, please call 01507 328662.
