FENCING: Outstanding first half year for fencing club

Louth Fencing Club has had an outstanding first half of the year.

The juniors have competed in two Yorkshire/Humberside Youth League competitions and have won an amazing 14 medals.

There were stand out performances from Joe Blair, Robert Kemp, Lottie Fry and Emily Goulden, who all won one gold and one silver medal, Sam Blair with his first gold, Alex Judge silver and Wilf Broghton brought home two bronze medals.

In the region’s senior team foil, the women’s team of Kate Harris, Paula Webster and Emily Goulden took gold for the sixth year running.

The mixed team of Sam Brougham, Andrew Chu and Kim DeLarge fenced a strong all men’s team in the final taking silver.

Sam also fenced in the Winton Cup, the biggest inter-regional team event of 
the year, and won the foil event.

Andrew Chu took a hard earned silver in the prestigious Yorkshire Senior Foil.

Last weekend saw first class performances from Louth at the Norfolk Open. With more than 60 mens’ foil entries, Andrew Chu took bronze with Sam Brougham silver after a hard fought final. Kate Harris won best veteran award.

The club will be starting a junior beginners course in the next few weeks and an adult course in September/
