GOLF: Delighted Di is leading lady at Louth Golf Club

The threatened showers did not materialise for the Harry Younger mixed competition at Louth Golf Club.

Eileen Tatton (daughter of Harry Younger), and her husband Jeff, travelled from Sutton Coldfield to play in, and present the prizes for, this stableford foursomes.

The winners were: Nigel Towse & Sylvia Mortimer 36; 2nd Don & Bridget Buick 32; 3rd Jeff Tatton & Barbara Vickers 31.

Lady Captain, Barbara Vickers, of Louth Golf Club, started her Lady Captain’s Day with a shotgun 18 holes stableford for the Janet Moody trophy, the overall winner was Di Jones with 34 points.

The Full results were: handicaps 1-20: 1st D Jones 34; 2nd S Daniels 34; 3rd L West 30. Handicaps 21-28: M Barnes 33; G Leverton 38. Handicaps 29-36: S Haigh 33; 2nd S Carpenter 3; M Barker 28.

In the afternoon there was a 3 ball, Yellow 2 ball better ball stableford: The winning team was that of Kate Hicks, Julie Atkinson & Annette Taylor 51; 2nd T Atkinson, L Elliott & Eileen Ballard 47 (33 b6); 3rd L Allerton, S Haigh & J Day 47 (31 b6)

Barbara entertained the ladies as they came through in the morning on the 9th and 18th with home-made cakes and savouries supplied by the ladies and the Captain. Apart from a retinue of men helpers she also had her granddaughter Gabriel helping out.

It was repeated again in the afternoon as they finished on the 9th. Barbara also supplied Pimm’s before the evening meal and prize giving.
