Good results in season’s final county cross country challenge

NINE members of Mablethorpe Running Club took part in the fourth and final race of the Lincolnshire Athletics Cross Country League at Riseholme College in Lincoln.

Good conditions greeted the competitors.

The U11 girls race over 1,500 metres saw another strong run from Eleanor Collingwood in fifth position with a time of six minutes and 35 seconds which secured sixth place in the overall standings.

Archie Rainbow had a fine run in the U11 boys event over 1,500 metres with seventh place in 6.11 which enabled him to finish sixth overall. His team mate, Jordan Hewson ran well for 13th position in 7.11 and finished 12th in the overall standings.

The ladies race was held over 5,300 metres and saw another great run from Janine Stones (vet 40) in second place with a time of 21.48 and secured a win in the veterans overall category for the series.

Sheryl Hawse (senior) continued her improvement with fifth place in 23.39. Both ladies should be in strong contention for places in the Lincolnshire County Team for the Inter Counties cross country championships in March.

The men’s race was run over 9,700 metres and first back for Mablethorpe was over 55 veteran, Kevin Harrison, in 25th place with a time of 42 minutes and 30 seconds. He ended up with 12 place overall.

Next finisher was Nigel Booth (vet 50) in 28th place in 42.51 and then in 30th position was Mark Collingwood (senior) with 43.32. The club chairman, Wayne Kew (vet 50), completed the course in 36th place in 44.50.
