OVER two Sundays, August 14 and 21, the Sandilands Golf Club Championships were held.
Thirty five members entered with all of them contesting the Coxon Cup for the best net score over 2 rounds and 16 for the best gross score Weigall Cup (Club Champion) over 2 rounds.
The highlight of the first round, and I’m sure the leaders after that round will forgive me, was the hole in one achieved by Craig Chilton on the 10th hole.
Something Craig won’t forget having to buy everyone a drink – thank God for club insurance! Of course the second round always determines the winners and it is a question of holding your nerve.
The winner of the Weigall Club and Club Champion with rounds of 78 & 70 (148) off 7 handicap was Anthony Brass (Brassy).
Second place went to James Doughty with scores of 75 & 77 (152) off 6 handicap. Third place went to Matty Neal with rounds of 78 & 75 (153) off 7 handicap. In the Coxon Cup the winner with rounds of 63 & 69 (132) was Paul Chambers.
Second place went to the ever improving Junior member Liam Needham with rounds of 66 & 67 (133). Brassy came third with 134.
In the first round apart from Craig’s hole in one, John Robson got a 2 on the 10th hole and Sean Duncan a 2 on the 13th hole.
In the second round Mick Neal and Sean Duncan got 2’s on the 2nd hole and Alan Edwards a 2 on the 17th hole.
