For some, the Masters at Augusta National signals the start of the golfing season, but at Kenwick Park the Captains’ Opening Competition is the curtain-raiser
A field of 80 players took part in the am-am format as Rob and Elaine Houlton, playing with Rick and Sue Fisher, scored a superb 87 points to win.
Andy Sudlow, Graham Parkinson, Rob and Will Oliver had to be content with second place with 82 points, while a countback on 81 placed Bob and Jane Briggs, Chris Davies and Graham Jacklin in third ahead of Smiler Hutson, John Rysdale, Spencer and Harry Wood.
The nearest the pin winners were Harry Wood (8th) and Elaine Houlton (17th).
A total of £80 was raised for the nominated charities of captains Graham Sykes and Penny Buckley – Lives, Blood Bikes and the Louth branch of Parkinsons UK by each golfer buying a mulligan, some using them wisely, others not!
