Just as Muirfield announced their decision to allow women to become members, perhaps Woodhall Spa were left regretting their decision to let Kenwick Park’s rising junior stars, Kate Vigrass and Poppy Kinsey, compete in a county team event.
Playing alongside ladies Tracey Stobart and Sophie Beardsall, they amassed an exceptional 97 points to win the competition.
The runners-up also represented Kenwick, as bright prospects Yue Yue To and Sunny Williamson scored 92 points alongside junior section organiser Patsy Clarke and Julie Palmer to cap an impressive display in the girls’ first-ever competition and hint at big things to come.
* The glorious spring weather continued for the Kenwick Park ladies’ 18-hole stableford last Tuesday.
Lady vice-captain Sue Fisher (13) racked up a total of 34 points to win the Silver Division, while Lesley Burton (14) took second spot with 32 points.
Allison Cook (22) entered uncharted territory with her 37 points to win the Bronze Division, with Chris Goldsbrough (31) following closely behind on 34 points.
In the nine-hole competition, Jenny Cutts (34) scored an impressive 16 points to take victory, narrowly beating Vicki Halmshaw (25) by a point.
* There is a great buzz at Kenwick as he club gets ready for this weekend’s fundraising event for Ashton Turner.
It aims to provide a springboard for the top young golfer who turned professional at the back end of last summer.
