LOCAL sport development company Lincolnshire Active Community Network (LACN) celebrates its first birthday today, August 25.
The group was formed last year in the aim of supporting development of sports facilities across our county by utilising sports halls, village halls, churches, schools and community centres.
So far 27 facilities have signed up for the network, meaning more sports and activities are being provided for people in our area.
And the England under 19 lacrosse team were on hand to wish the network a happy first birthday thanks to a local connection between the two.
The side took part in a training camp at Lincoln earlier this month and worked with two masters students to further develop their skills.
Dave Carter, LACN Facilities Manager, said: “The response to LACN has been fantastic; villages in rural Lincolnshire can often feel isolated by the larger towns and facilities that Lincolnshire has to offer, but LACN has provided a platform for them.
“We want to reiterate that sports and physical activity such as badminton, kurling and dance can easily be made available in local facilities such as village halls and community centres, and by 2012, we want individuals in Lincolnshire to be within walking or cycling distance of a facility that provides sport and activity.
“Lincolnshire has some wonderful facilities; we are a rural county so have plenty of green open space which is ideal for sports. We are fully utilising indoor space and I hope that more villages and community centres will see the benefit of LACN, and want to work with us over the next 12 months.”
