Members of Louth Bowls Club’s over 60s teams have celebrated victories with maximum points.
The Ladies were in action first on the Wednesday in a Trudy Bates match, beating a Scunthorpe team by 138 shots to 63.
The rink with the biggest winning margin was that of Sylvia Stainton, Jean Dracass, Alice Ashwood and Liz Draper, which was a score of 35-12.
Pushing them close was Val Sherry’s rink, which won by 22 shots whilst Margaret Leggett’s rink prevailed to the tune of 24-11.
The other winning skips were Jean Holdsworth (24-13) and Veronica Ball (23-17).
The following day, the Men’s Over 60s team thrashed Grantham 154 -51.
Leading the way was the rink of Keith Kelly, Dave Roper, Barry Toyn and Paul Hayman, who showed their opponents little mercy in winning 40-2.
Team captain George Willoughby’s rink won 34-7 and Colin Smith’s rink won 32-10. It was a little closer on the other two rinks with the margins being nine and seven shots, respectively.
It was the Over 60s second ‘full-house’ victory in successive weeks and it puts them 19 points clear at the top of Division 2 with two matches to play.
The Men’s A team also top Division Two of their section and remain unbeaten after picking up 17 points from a possible 18 at Skegness on Saturday. This weekend they are away at Long Sutton.
The Mixed A team currently enjoy a narrow lead at the top of Division One.
The ladies’ trio of Sylvia Stainton, Joan Stones and Wendy Blyth have made it through to the national finals of the English Bowls Federation indoor rinks, at Newark next month.
The club’s first league champions of the winter season were confirmed when Seniors clinched the Men’s Over 60s title with a 32-4 victory over bottom team Yes Fred. They are 11 points clear with five games to play.
On Saturday the club is having a knock-out ‘roving jack’ competition with play starting at 1.45pm. Members wishing to play must register by 1.30pm.
