LOUTH Indoor Bowls Club’s Mixed ‘B’ team had one of its best matches of the season on Saturday when Lincoln ‘B’ were the visitors.
Despite winning on only one rink Louth took the aggregate victory by just one shot in an absorbing contest that wasn’t decided until the final bowl had been delivered.
The scores were very close up until the 18th end when Lincoln looked set for victory with a 13-shot lead but a late surge by the hosts over the last three ends saw them score 17 shots against the visitors’ 3 to steal the win.
Louth’s winning rink (30-14) was made up of Brian and Irene East, Glenis Ellis and Mick Espin.
The Men’s Over 60s team did not enjoy such a close match when they entertained Lincoln ‘A’ and lost overall by 2 shots.
They did manage two rink wins with George Willoughby’s rink winning 26-16 and Colin Smith’s rink winning 20-15.
The club’s Friday Mixed Pairs league also provided some very close games. In division one leaders Putland and Robinson beat Willoughby and Pickett 27-4 to open a one-point lead at the top as rivals Cope and Stones could only salvage a 14-14 draw with a ‘3 on the final end against Brown and Thornton.
Division 2 leaders L and A Skeath were beaten 18-14 by P and V Hillier who replaced their opponents at the top by one point.
One shot on the final end saw Lee and Rayner beat G and B Clark to hang on to first place in divison 3 thanks to a far superior shots difference over Hewson and Norman.
