The autumn sporting calendar for the Wolds School Sports Partnership concluded with the Sports Hall Athletics competition at Monks Dyke Tennyson College.
On the track there were sprints and relays alongside soft javelin and chest push ball throwing and speed bounce, with standing and vertical jump events in the field.
The larger schools event was between Lacey Gardens Junior, Holton-le-Clay Junior, Grimoldby, St Michael’s and Caistor Primary.
Having lost the Wolds Area football final to Caistor the previous week, St Michael’s were keen to get back to winning ways.
And with a string of first places, dominating the field events, the Louth school’s mixed Year 5/6 team produced an outstanding performance to come out on top for the first time in many years and push Caistor into second.
Headteacher Paul Fox said: “We have always loved the indoor athletics competitions, whether we win or lose, as so many children can be involved.
“In recent years we have finished as runners-up in this competition so the children were delighted to come out on top – a real team effort!”
