Both Louth Men’s 2nd team and Ladies 1st team were in action last weekend with varying degrees of success.

A strong Louth Men’s 2nd Team played St James of Grimsby 1st team in what promised to be a close match. The Louth team of Trevor Blades and Ian Roscoe, Marcus McVeigh and Simon Pullen and Joe Allinson and Alex Davies proved three good doubles pairs and ran out comfortable winners by 7–2 with Joe and Alex winning all 3 rubbers and the other pairs 2 rubbers each. This was a good win for Louth and shows the club is beginning to get some depth to its men’s teams.

Louth Ladies 1st team travelled to Tennis Buddies of Woodhall Spa for what was expected to be a very tough match. Louth welcomed back Madeline Verdegall for her first game in almost six months, but were missing three of their regular team.

Louth pairings of Madeline and Rachel Allinson, Ruth East and Judith Bedford and Sarah Allinson and Looby Hardcastle lost 8–1 with only Madeline and Rachel registering a victory for Louth.

After the winning the 1st Division Title last year these are proving difficult times for the Ladies 1st team, with up to five of last year’s first team squad unavailable at the moment.

The team though is encouraged by the performance of Looby, who after only one year of playing tennis is now reaching a level where she can compete in both singles and doubles in the top level county leagues.
