Westgate Bag and Spoon battle at Kenwick Park Golf Club

THE Kenwick men and ladies played a stableford competition for the Westgate Bag and Spoon which is a very old golf bag and club found in the loft of a house in Westgate, Louth.

Mick Upton (4) had an excellent score of 41 points to win the men’s competition.

Phil Jackson (13) scored 40 to come second on a countback from Ryan Girdley (10).

Sandra Crow (11) played well to win the ladies competition with 39 from Elaine Houlton (17) with 38. Julia Labbett (14) was third with 35 on a countback from Karen Archer, Lesley Burton and Di Lidgard.

Vice Captain Roger Goldsmith sponsored this competition and the nearest the pin prizes were won by Steve Thompson and Elaine Houlton.

As well as scoring a two at the 12th hole, Elaine holed out in two at the par four eleventh as well.

Two mixed greensome competitions were played simultaneously with the married couples playing for the Newton trophy.

Simon and Di Lidgard won the Newton trophy on their first attempt with an excellent score of 41 points.

Steve and Mabel Blackburn came second with 39 ahead of Robert and Julia Bowser in third place with 38.

Graham Cowley and Polly Pike won the unweds competition with 38 points with Karl Koslow and Liz Hardy in second place with 33.
