Louth Men’s Over 60s team were 104-87 aggregate shots winners in their county league home match against Boston, winning three rinks to two.

Best rink for the home club was that of Barry Southwell, Trevor Brassington, Horace Cope and Barry Mountain, which notched up a 31-16 win.

They opened up a 14-1 lead after seven ends and then picked up a ‘5’ and a ‘6’ on the way to a commanding 30-6 advantage before the opposing four restored some pride over the final seven ends.

The other two successful home rinks had to fight harder for their victories. George Willoughby’s rink were just one shot ahead after 16 ends but grabbed a ‘5’ to gain some breathing space and won 23-15.

The four skipped by John Welsh had trailed throughout the first 12 ends but then scored two ‘3’s to go four shots ahead, only for the Boston rink to score a ‘4’ to level things up. Welsh’s men then scored three successive singles for a 21-18 win. The Louth losses were by 17-14 and 21-15.

Louth Ladies did not fare so well in their Yetton Plate quarter-final match against Doncaster last Saturday and are now out of the competition.

They lost 102-61 on aggregate shots, one of the two away rinks suffering a Valentine’s Day massacre 37-8, whilst Sylvia Stainton’s home rink was the only success for Louth winning 23-17.

In the club leagues, Friday Mixed Pairs division 3 leaders Malcolm Hewson and Janet Norman saw their advantage cut to just one point when they were beaten 20-12 by Ray & Sue Green, who moved into second spot to replace Gordon & Brenda Clark, who lost 19-13 to Steve Moore and Pam Cowling. John Williams and Marion Rose cemented fourth place with a 23-14 win over C.Briggs & A.Malcolm.
