Louth sidecar racer Jev Walmsley and team-mate Pete Founds bolstered their British title bid with a double win at Cadwell Park.
The previous round at a soaking wet Anglesey did not go well for any of the top three teams, finishing only one of the two races apiece.
But back-to-back wins in the first four races had ensured Founds and Walmsley’s lead remained healthy heading to the Lincolnshire circuit.
After setting up in pouring rain on Friday, free practice was held on a drying track and qualifying was completely dry, allowing the championship leaders to take control and earn their third pole position of the season, three-tenths ahead of their nearest rivals.
Race one started in perfect conditions and Founds and Walmsley got the hole shot into the first corner, closely followed by Lewis Blackstock and Paddy Rosney (Team Holden), fellow title contenders Lee Crawford and Pat Farrance (Team ARC), and Steve and Matty Ramsden.
Their pace helped create a two-second lead which, with the help of their pit board signals, they maintained right to the chequered flag.
Despite their victory, the team made some set-up changes for the following day’s race to try and get closer to last year’s lap times, which all teams appeared to be struggling to match.
A slightly slower start allowed Team Holden to pull alongside, sparking some nail-biting racing.
They rounded no less than three corners side-by-side until Walmsley and Founds, who held the inside line coming onto the back straight, edged in front.
Becoming the only team to break into the 1min 37secs lap times, they then stretched out a comfortable lead lap-on-lap to around seven seconds to claim their sixth win of the season.
The team were also rewarded with the Steve Norbury Trophy, presented by Jim Norbury, for the best overall performance of the weekend in the British Championship.
The team would like to thank their sponsors: Trustland Construction, Morris Lubricants, RTX Leathers, A V Craine (Davey and Beryl), R and Y Autos, TKR Graphics, Majestic Engineering, Motrac, HEL Performance, Manby Motors, Waldo Graphic Design, IHS Ltd, Fozzy Glazing, Aleo Plating, Louth Building Supplies, Suzuki GB, Avon Tyres, Cestrian Signs, JTE Plumbing, Woodcote Body Repairs, Concrete Drilling Services and CJF Associates.
The next round takes place at Croft on the August bank holiday weekend.
