Louth Indoor Bowls: Nap hand for Mixed A in County League

Louth Indoor Bowls Club’s Mixed A team recorded a resounding 114-89 aggregate shots victory in a County League match over a visiting Lincoln A team.

The hosts took all five rinks with Alan Watson, Malcolm Hewson, Val Sherry and Joan Stones recording the best winning margin, 30-22.

This included a maximum score of eight shots on one end midway through the contest which put them 16-6 ahead. The lead was increased to 28-9 before the opposing four restored some pride by winning four of the last six ends to give the score some respectability.

John Welsh’s rink won 22-16, but were given a late scare as their opponents fought back from 21-10 down.

There were also close finishes on the other three rinks with Colin Smith’s four winning the last two ends for a 17-11 victory, while Allan Dent (Senior)’s rink held on for a 25-21 win after their opponents grabbed four shots over the last three ends.

It was even tighter on Simon Reeson’s rink where the last three ends went to the visitors but the Louth four hung on to win by a single shot.

* On Saturday, Louth Men’s Over 60s team were at Grantham where the aggregate shots result went down to the final delivery and finished 97 each.

Louth won the match 10 points to eight courtesy of three rink wins.

The scores varied greatly across the rinks, but the Louth rink of John Welsh, Alan Watson, Barry Fox and Barry Toyn had the best margin, 29-16.

Horace Cope’s rink won 20-13, while George Willoughby’s rink gained a 19-16 victory.

* In the club’s leagues, Fast Shippers are steaming ahead in the Evening Fours but were pushed all the way by APS before winning 13-12 to retain maximum points from four games.

Rockset and Questors remained in the leaders’ wake despite wins over Alford (17-10) and Misfits (17-15) respectively.

In the Mixed Fours, Half A Mo kept their 100 per cent record intact while ruining their opponents’ perfect start in a 16-14 win against S.O.S.

Smilers also made it four straight wins as they did just enough to beat Barracudas 17-13.
