Louth-based motorcycle racer Peter Hickman’s growing reputation within the sport has seen him sign for Northern Ireland team, Cookstown B E Racing.
The 28-year-old will ride a Kawasaki E R 6 for the team, run by former racer John Burrows, in the lightweight class at this year’s Isle of Man TT festival.
The Lincolnshire rider has been sensational on the roads over the past two years and secured the win in the second Superbike race at the 2015 Ulster GP before going on to win the high-profile Macau GP in November.
Hickman, who is the eighth-fastest rider in TT history, said: “I spoke to Paul Phillips about a ride in the lightweight class and he put me in touch with John Burrows who was keen to work with me.
“I think the Cookstown Burrows Engineering Kawasaki and I will be a strong combination and I’m sure we can get very near to the podium if not on it.
“It will be my third year competing at the TT and I have already proved how fast I can be.
“John’s machinery is always competitive and proven at the TT.
“Of course, the Supertwin will be new to me, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and the extra track time it will give me.”
Burrows added: “I have been really impressed with Peter over the past two years and almost persuaded him to ride for me at the Ulster last year, but he decided to ride the MV Agusta instead.
“However ,I have got my man this time and as soon as he showed an interest in riding one of my Kawasaki 650 Supertwins I had no hesitation in signing him to ride for Cookstown Burrows Engineering Racing.
“He is a potential race winner and whatever the result he will be a great ambassador for the team and our sponsors.”
Hickman will also ride the JG Speedfit GBMoto Kawasaki in the feature races at the TT and North West 200 races this year and will begin his 2016 British Superbike campaign for the team on April 10 at Silverstone.
