Louth Under 15s edged out by Market Rasen

Louth Under 15s were pipped in a thrilling finish in their Grimsby and District League derby with Market Rasen last week.

Four wickets from Caitlin Phillips helped Rasen Under 15s to a seven-wicket win after Louth had won the toss and decided to bat first.

William Laughton and skipper Richard Bell put on 65 for the first wicket before Bell retired on reaching 40.

Phillips came on at second change and had an immediate effect, bowling Laughton for 19. She then ran through the middle order, having Luke Johnson (0) caught by Rory Miller, Harry King (4) caught by Benjamin Quilter before bowling Matthew Ashford (0).

Rasen’s reply began badly when Mark Bedford was bowled by Jack Leeming for just five, and Miller was castled by Freeman for eight.

Nic Keast and Adam Cook helped consolidate, but when the former was out caught off the bowling of Bell for a brisk 17, the game was still in the balance at 61-3.

Cook (27 not out) continued to play the anchor role as Connor Janney added a swashbuckling unbeaten 28 from just 23 balls to carry Rasen to a seven-wicket win off the penultimate ball.
