Sutton on Sea CC First XI recorded a commanding win over Hainton in East Lindsey Cricket League Division Two on Sunday.

Sutton were looking to avenge their early season loss in the reverse fixture and having won the toss, captain Reece Brant put the visitors into bat.

Adrian Culley opened the bowling and struck with his fourth ball to remove Keast, Patrick Poynton taking a fine catch. Culley then clean bowled fellow opener Richards to leave Hainton 4-2.

Dan Poynton continued the good work from the other end, dismissing the Hainton number three for 0 in a wicket-maiden, and after six overs the visitors were 11-3.

Culley (6-4-8-3) had Chamberlin caught behind by 15-year-old Cole Nelson, making his senior wicket-keeping debut, before Poynton took three wickets in two great overs which left Hainton 24-7 from 12 overs.

Culley was replaced by Patrick Poynton who bowled Purkiss (5) with his second ball. D. Poynton (8-3-11-5) removed the Hainton number nine with another catch behind the stumps to complete his five-wicket haul.

P. Poynton capped a great bowling and fielding display by trapping Hainton’s last man lbw as the visitors were bowled out for just 29 in 16 overs.

Hainton’s opening bowlers Keast and Perkiss started strongly and were rewarded in the fourth over when Cole Nelson was bowled for three.

Keith Nelson added five runs before he was bowled by Keast, leaving Sutton’s reply at 9-2 after seven overs.

But Brant and opener Dan Poynton managed to defend the good balls and score off the bad ones to reach the target in the 14th over.

Sutton would like to thank sponsors Focus Signs of Alford for their continued valuable support of the senior and junior teams.
